Rosita and Chema

In San Pedro, Guatemala, Rosita and Chema warmly welcomed me into their home, where I was embraced by the warmth of their family. Our days were filled with shared meals, Spanish lessons, and learning the art of tortilla-making in their kitchen. But beyond these culinary experiences, our time together became a cultural exchange, with discussions on current events, including the civil unrest that affected Guatemala earlier that year. Through these conversations, we discovered common ground and mutual understanding, recognising that, despite our different backgrounds, there was much to learn from each other. It was a privilege to witness the deep bond between Chema and Rosita, a couple who generously shared their world with me.
